The HAPPIER Programme aims to assess the efficacy of Adapted Physical Activity (APA) over 2 years on the quality of life of residents in nursing homes and on their human and organisational environment. The trans-national study aims to cover 32 residential facilities spread out equally across France, Ireland, Spain and Belgium.
  Objectives of the study
The HAPPIER Programme will use this study to assess whether an Adapted Physical Activity Programme that is designed for older adults and implemented by physical activity specialists is effective in meeting the challenges of active ageing in a residential care facility.
  Details of the study
Firstly, the study will assess the physical, social and cognitive impact of a physical activity programme among older adults in a residential care facility.
The same specialist will regularly monitor and make a detailed assessment of locomotor and functional skills. The detailed assessment will be carried out every six months
based on recognised international standard indicators[1] in the area of Adapted Physical Activity for older adults.
